The Code of Ethics and The Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida
As an intern, making my journey into the teaching profession, I realize the importance of holding myself to the highest of standards. My students should know without a doubt that I am there to help them achieve success in school and in life. Parents should be assured that their children are in the most capable hands with teachers who will create and model an effective learning community for all. Teachers should never compromise their moral compass for personal gain. Student growth and development will always be my primary concern.
There may be times, when appropriate professional conduct can be questioned by a student. During the election, for example, I was asked several times by my 2nd graders who I was going to vote for. Considering the sensitivity of the topic, it was not my place to discuss, influence, or reprimand students with different beliefs or personal views. I took reasonable precautions and chose not to discuss my own political opinion on the matter. I redirected the conversation to a school related topic, such as how wonderful it is that we all have the right to vote in the United States. Although that situation may not seem as serious as other ethical dilemmas, it is necessary to abide by the code of ethics and the principles of professional conduct at all times.
